Indian Creek Watershed Unites Diverse Partners to Protect Drinking Water Quality
CTIC Session at the NACD Annual Meeting
Feb. 1, 2016, at 2:30 p.m to 3:30 p.m. Pacific Time
Grand Sierra Resort and Casino, 2500 East Second Street, Reno, Nev.

This session will explore the partnerships initiated by CTIC in the 52,000 acre Indian Creek watershed in Livingston County, IL and how these partnerships have translated into a successful watershed conservation project that engages farmers as leaders in watershed protection efforts. CTIC will highlight partnerships with local farmers, government agencies, agricultural industry members, universities, conservation NGOs, and the local Soil and Water Conservation District, and how these partnerships have led to successful farmer engagement and widespread implementation of priority conservation systems that incorporate the 4Rs of nutrient stewardship, encourage nutrient use efficiency, and enable soil and water quality protection. We also will discuss the social factors that contributed to the success of the project and how changes in best management practices are impacting water quality in Indian Creek, the headwaters of a drinking water source stream for over 25,000 citizens in the cities of Pontiac and Streator, IL.  CTIC will have several partners from the Indian Creek project on-hand to contribute to the presentation.
