WATERSHED OVERVIEW


Higginsville City Lake Watershed is located in central Lafayette County, west-central Missouri. The watershed covers an area of approximately 3,300 acres from about three miles northeast to three miles east-southeast of Higginsville. The watershed consists of approximately 50 percent cropland, 32 percent grassland, 8 percent woodland, and 10 percent other land (homes, water, roads, and railroads).

The Higginsville Reservoir system consists of approximately 194 surface acres of water. The city sells wholesale, treated water from the lake to several nearby towns and to the Lafayette - Johnson - Saline Public Water Supply District Number 2 (PWSD#2) for distribution in the rural area (Refer to Public Water Service Area Map). There are a total of about 3,800 residential and business connections serving approximately 9,300 people.
