Active Programs
Introduction
Currently 12 BMP programs are in various stages of operation in the watershed. Some are several
years old and some are fairly new and just underway.
The programs are key tools for the project to improve the overall water quality of the watershed.
Many separate areas are targeted, but together the collective effort makes the work a more
complete approach to water quality improvements. The numbers and figures in the tables and
write-ups are current as of May 1, 1996.
At the end of this section, the Current Needs Table details the remaining money for these programs and what the
estimated cost would be to maintain the practices. The project has spent a total of $1.4
million in its efforts to improve conditions in the watershed.
This amount of money does not include the in-kind expenses incurred by the agencies which
provides personnel to the project, or the in-kind expenses incurred by the participants in the
programs.
None of the programs were 100 percent payment programs. All programs required the participants
to contribute financially to the implementation of the practices.
The project team has held numerous field days and published articles in various media outlets
to reach as wide and diverse a population as possible. The reference information gives only
brief information on the program activities. To obtain more detailed information on field days
